Sleep Writing

Want to know what I did this afternoon?  I went insane, apparently, that's what I did.

I was so worn out from work this morning that I was struggling like crazy against drifting off into the land of sleep during math class.  It was a really interesting class, and I felt horrible that I was falling asleep, but I couldn't help it.  I tried to keep myself awake by writing down as much of what Dr. Stokes was saying, but that didn't appear to be working either.  I fought sleep off for about half an hour, and then....

... I woke up.

  Beans.

Right about that time, Dr. Stokes began demonstrating Euclid's first proposition, so I actually woke up most of the way because it was so interesting. He was using a compass, so I was intrigued.  It wasn't until there was about five minutes left of class that I actually looked down at my notes.  And I almost burst out laughing.  I didn't recognize the handwriting, nor the notes themselves.  They had nothing WHATSOEVER to do with what Dr. Stokes had been talking about.  So now I had to struggle not against sleep, but against laughter.

As soon as class was over, I rushed off to show my friends what I had written in my sleep.  Sleep writing is new for me, and apparently it doesn't happen often to anyone.

Here's what I wrote though, with the exact indentation and punctuation and capitalization and such.

Laugh.  Hard:

"We're not only talking about a fin, so it would appear.

Move points. The bridge second cave where Apipondaeux sat.  Hyprocrates and the other snowman second from stars in blue somewhere knew loveliness.

Twenty for a long time sings.

(Oh gosh, I'm soooooo tired))))

I seriously can't go to bed - I'm either be falling asleep in class ((which happens pretty reticularly)).  Dr. Stoked will think I'm Roland.
My notes aren't really excited about these days and hours, but sometimes things go wrong.  Classes  ,   work, ... Joy.

Archainaiaia..."

What I want to know is who this Apipondaeux?

Currently Listening
We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things
By Jason Mraz

It's been a while...

... but I'm back now, and so much has happened since the Hill Abbey that I wouldn't know where to begin to tell it all.

So think I'll just tell about the most important things.  For now, anyhow.  I somehow doubt that I'll start posting on here regularly (because I'm using my other blog right now), but if I do, it will be a miracle indeed.

August 18 - I started college.

I'm attending New Saint Andrews in Moscow, auditing Mathematics and Rhetoric and taking choir, and I love it.  I love that my teachers get so excited about their subjects.  I love the my choir teacher makes us take quizzes in choir (how cool is that?).  I love that I feel so at home at NSA.  I love how close I've become to my classmates.  I love it all!

September 22 - My wonderful father's birthday, and Henry Wesley Wells is born!

When I got the call that he had been born, I was at a friend's birthday party. I couldn't come over yet, though, and was told to wait a bit. I was ancy for the next half hour.  When I finally did get the call to come over and meet little Henry, I pretty much sped the whole way there.  Then, since there was no parking near the house, I had to park way down the street, and then ran all the way back to the house.  I cried when I got to hold Henry.  He's so perfect!  So beautiful.  I still can't believe I'm an aunt.

September 24 - My first day of work at Smokey Mountain Pizzaria Grill (wow that's a long title).

That isn't the Smokey Mountain I work in, but mine looks similar.  Smokey Mountain was built into the mall, so it's not its own building.  But yes, same windows, same doors, same roof, same pillars ... same sidewalk... yeah.

Anyhow, I really like working there.  On Wednesdays I work the lunch shift as a host, and Saturdays I work in the kitchen making salads and deserts.  My shifts are long and keep me extremely busy, but I love it.  The servers I deal with are awesome, and the cooks I work with are a blast too.  They're all cheerful and make it fun for everyone else.  I always sing when I'm there.  Last Saturday I got the Portland Rain Song stuck in my head and was singing it over and over until Cody came and requested I sing something else.  Hehe. :Yeah, I felt bad.

October 10 (three days from today) - Luke and Liz are getting married!

The wedding is at 2:00 PM, and the reception will be underway by 3:00.  It's kind of odd to think that Liz will be named Elizabeth Nieuwsma now, but I guess I'll get used to it eventually.  The really weird thing, though, will be the fact that I'll be the only Callihan girl in the house!  Its weird going from being one of four to one of... well .. one!   But yes, I'm really happy for Liz and Luke.  Luke is hilariously fun, and he makes Liz sooo happy.  He's also the only one in the world who can actually succeed in scaring me.  Many have tried, but only Luke has succeeded in getting screams from me.  Yoikes. This is the guy who is going to be my big brother?  Fun times to come.

And thus ends the summary of my life/the Callihan's lives.  I shall now go disappear into the void once again.

California Fires

California is burning.  It does so every summer, but it means a lot more to me this year because I have a few friends out there fighting the fires themselves.  The fires this year are raging all over the place (with some 1,100 fires confirmed), and our boys are having quite a time keeping up(not enough crew there to take care of all the fires).

Thank goodness for BC, New Zealand, and Australia who are sending many of their own fire fighters to help battle the flames.  And yesterday New York State sent many of their own crew over to join the fight.  And for the past fourteen days our California boys have been working alongside several crews from Northern Colorado.  These crews from Colorado were called home today, due to infections they acquired in the area they were working in.  The forest they were battling in was filled with heavy poison oak which gave them horrible rashes (yes, even through their suits), and made breathing difficult (and dangerous) due to the fumes emanating from the oak as it catches fire.  Another crew from Colorado is going to ship out to take their place soon.

Big Sur Is Ordered to Evacuate
(Smoke from the mountains around Big Sur fills the sky)

The fire in Big Sur started about two weeks ago from lightning, and has grown to be one of the largest and most dangerous at the moment.  The crews from New York are stationed here in Big Sur, doing their best to get this massive blaze under control.

Gov. Schwarzenegger wrote to President Bush a few weeks ago and requested help from the military and other fire stations to get a handle on the fires blazing across the state.

"The newest firefighters battling the massive wildfires in California are fresh off of overseas duties. That's because they're among 200 National Guardsmen being asked to help with the more than 320 fires burning across the state.  It's the first time in 30 years that guardsmen have been used to battle wildfires in the state. Fire officials say the guardsmen are a huge relief since many of the firefighters have been battling the blazes nonstop for months."

Many of you know Manuel V, a legendary Schola student and inventor of Doffee.  Well, he is out there in the thick of these fires battling alongside his fellow firefighters.  I'm not sure exactly where he is, but he's there and doing his part to help.  Please pray for him while these fires rage across the state.

Please be praying for the residents of California as these fires burn uncontrolled in the forests and mountains near their homes.  Be praying for Gov. Schwarzenegger and the officials as they make decisions on whether to call in more help.  And please please please pray for all the brave men out there fighting the flames in order to save homes and lives, and risking their own lives by doing so.  Where would we be without them?

Mwahahaha...

Guess who's working at West of Paris tonight?

Last night was technically my training night, and I had a lot of fun. I think I did pretty good, although I did make a few mistakes.  The biggest one that I made was when I succeeded in knocking over a bottle of wine!  Thankfully I managed to do it behind the counter, so no one saw it (but I bet they heard it). David and I struggled to not laugh out loud, but as I said - it was a struggle. On the one hand I felt really stupid, but on the other hand, I'm glad I got it out of my system last night.  The way I see it, I was allowed a small mistake or two last night since I was still "in training".  But not tonight. Tonight I need to get it right.  So hopefully since I did it last night I won't do that again tonight.  That's what I'm hoping, anyhow.  *crosses her fingers*

I'm really looking forward to it, though.  I've always loved dining at West of Paris, so I'm excited about (hopefully) being a part of what makes it so enjoyable.  I want to to make it as enjoyable for others, just like it is for me.

  Wish me luck!

P.S. I know how to fold the napkins West of Paris style!!
